Possible Trial Date for Brent Shubert in Spring 2015

JAIL_INMATE_SHUBERT_BRENT _JAMES_FRONT_02112013_032142_459_PMIt will likely be the spring of 2015 before accused murderer Brent Shubert goes on trial.

That’s according to Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Malcom.

Shubert’s attorneys were in Franklin County Superior Court earlier this week to discuss dates for future pre-trial hearings, but no actual trial date has been set.

Shubert’s next motion hearing is set for September 8, at which time his attorneys are expected to ask the court to release him on bond.

Shubert has also been fighting District Attorney Parks White’s motion to make this a death penalty case, filing numerous motions over the past several  months to quash the ruling.

At his arraignment in February, Shubert entered a not guilty plea on all counts in Franklin County Superior Court in the death of Bonnie Ann Cooner.BONNY COONER

Cooner went missing in late January 2013 from the home she and her 12-year old son shared with Shubert on Unawatti Road in Canon.

An intensive search was launched to find Cooner that involved Franklin County Sheriff’s investigators, the GBI as well as friends and relatives.

At one point, Shubert told CBS Atlanta that Cooner had been moody and acting strangely just before she disappeared.

Cooner’s body was found two weeks later in early February, 2013 down an abandoned well near her home.

Shubert was arrested several hours later in Anderson, SC and returned to Franklin County.

In March of last year, a Franklin County Grand Jury indicted the Shubert on one count of malice murder, one count of felony murder and one count of concealing the death of another.
