Playground Equipment to be Dedicated Today in Lavonia City Park

City of Lavonia officials and members of the Lavonia Pilot Club will dedicate the new playground equipment designed for special needs kids and adults this evening.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6p at Lavonia City Park.

Fundraising began in earnest in 2021 by the Pilot Club to raise $50,000 to help fund the playground equipment, and a check was presented to the City last fall.

Susan Harbin was the project coordinator for the Pilot Club.

She says their efforts started in 2021 after a meeting with the Downtown Development Authority.

While the Pilot Club’s goal was $50,000 to purchase the equipment they raised just over $64,000.

The money covers four pieces of playground equipment that have now been installed at Lavonia City Park.

Some of the fundraisers held by the Pilot Club included an evening dinner at Sweet Combs of Honey, two events at the Lavonia Chick-Fil-A, as well events at the carnival and touch-the-truck.

The Pilot Club also received several grants along with many large and small private donations.

Again, the ribbon cutting and ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 6 at Lavonia City Park and the public is invited.
