Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton has resigned from the Stephens County Board of Education.

Pinkerton announced her immediate resignation in a press release Friday. She did not give a reason for why she has chosen to resign her seat.

In the letter, which is addressed to the citizens of stephens county, Dr. Pinkerton thanked supporters during her 11 years on the school board.

Pinkerton called those years, “a difficult yet rewarding journey with an incredibly dedicated group of citizens.”

Moving forward, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey says it will fall on the Stephens County school board to pick Pinkerton’s replacement.

“According to our local statute, the Board of Education members which remain on the board select the new Board member for the remainder of this term,” said Dorsey. Obviously, we have not had a meeting since this announcement, but they would go through a process of determining how they would want to make that selection. The criteria, besides the state law criteria, is that they must represent the district that is open and they have had to live in that district for at least one year.”

Pinkerton’s term runs through the end of 2016.

Pinkerton represented District 1 on the Stephens County Board Of Education.

Dorsey said he would expect the school board to discuss the matter at its january 19 meeting, unless a meeting is called prior to that.
