Pilot Club Benefit Dinner This Weekend Postponed

A benefit dinner to help raise money for playground equipment for special needs children at Lavonia City Park has been postponed.

The dinner was to have taken place this Saturday evening.

“Due to the potentially bad weather expected this weekend, the benefit dinner for the park project at Sweet Combs of Honey has been postponed until January 29th,” said Sara Young, Pilot Club member. “It will be held at the same time, 6-8 and with the same menu: Gumbo appetizer with rice, Pork tenderloin, Asparagus, carrots, twice baked potato, Bread pudding, and Crusty bread.”

The Lavonia Pilot Club is in the midst of its fundraising efforts to purchase the playground equipment.

The equipment will be added to the new children’s playground area at the park.

Young said so far, they’ve managed to raise about 75% of their share of the money needed to purchase and install the equipment, and the City of Lavonia is also sharing in the cost.

“Our share of the goal is $50,000 and the city is supplying the location and the labor to install the equipment plus putting in a share of the funding. So the total goal is around $80,000,” she said.

The Pilot Club according to Young has also written two grants and they hope to hear soon whether they will be awarded one or both.

Again, the benefit dinner at Sweet Combs of Honey set for this Saturday evening has been moved to Saturday, January 29.

Tickets for the benefit dinner are $100 per person and may be purchased at Sweet Combs of Honey or by calling (706) 491-3575.
