Palladin Wireless Wins FCC Auction to Expand Internet Service

Some hopeful news for people living in Franklin and several surrounding counties who struggle to find fast, affordable wireless internet service.

Last week, Palladin Wireless in Royston announced it competed in the Federal Communications Commission Auction 108 and won licenses for wireless spectrum in seven Georgia Counties, including Franklin, Elbert, and Oglethorpe.

Wireless Spectrum refers to radio frequencies that wireless signals, such as cell phones, travel over and are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which also includes television and radio frequencies.

Founder Stephen Fortmann said what that means for local consumers is that his company will soon be able to their wireless service in those counties.

Fortmann noted it is very unusual for a smaller Internet Service Provider like Palladin to win any frequencies in these FCC spectrum auctions.

He said most of the time, major providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile win the majority of spectrum auctions and in many cases don’t use the frequencies to expand their service or customer base, but just ‘sit on them’ to keep their competition from getting them.

Fortman said they are now in the process of purchasing the equipment needed for the extra spectrum and expect to have it available to customers next year.

Fortmann said the other counties Palladin won in the FCC 108 auction include Hancock, Glascock, Taliferro, Warren counties.
