Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter Re-opens Today

A reminder that the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter re-opens to the public today after an outbreak of the deadly parvovirus in a litter of puppies last month.

On May 17, Shelter Director Tammi Jourdenais announced the shelter had to close for two weeks because of a litter of puppies that were turned in and had parvo.

The Shelter was due to open last week, but Jourdenais said another litter that had been turned in also began to look sick.

When the shelter re-opens today, Jourdenais is asking those wanting to surrender dogs, cats, puppies, or kittens to be patient and call first to make an appointment.

And with so many dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens, the need never stops for pet food and cleaning supplies.

Jourdenais said anyone who would like to donate to help the animals is welcome to stop by the shelter.

The shelter is located on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia and again will re-open today at 11am.

Anyone with questions or to make an appointment to surrender an animal can call the shelter at 706-356-5363.
