Northeast GA Animal Shelter Sets Date for Spring Rabies Clinic

Spring is here and now is the time to make sure your pet is vaccinated against rabies.

This year, the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter in Lavonia is again holding its annual low-cost rabies clinic next month.

Shelter Director Tammie Jourdenais is encouraging anyone who needs to have their pet vaccinated to bring them to the shelter on Saturday, April 23.

“We will be doing discounted vaccines and microchipping,” she said. “We will have one-year rabies at $7, 3-year for $15. We will be doing basic distemper/parvo and feline upper respiratory and distemper vaccines for $9 each, kennel cough vaccines for $9 and microchipping for $25.”

The most common carriers of the rabies virus in Northeast Georgia are raccoons, foxes, and skunks.

If your dog or cat is an outside pet or is even outdoors in a dog pen or on a tie-out, they need to be protected with a current rabies vaccine.

It is also the law in Georgia. Inside dogs and cats should also be protected.

Additionally, there is no cure for rabies either in pets or in people, but you can protect them and your family by having your pet vaccinated.

Again, the annual low-cost rabies clinic at the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter in Lavonia is Saturday, April 23 from 10a to 2p. No appointment is necessary.

The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter is located on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia.
