Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are investigating two bomb threats at North Georgia Technical College campuses.

Tuesday morning, WLHR News spoke to North Georgia Tech Communications Director Amy Hulsey about the first bomb threat Monday at the Clarkesville campus.

“It was late yesterday afternoon when our campus security received a call about a bomb in the Visual Technology Center building,” she said. “We evacuated the building to make sure students and faculty were safe. And law enforcement came very quickly and they had the bomb K-9 sweep the building. Nothing was found. They also looked in the other buildings close by and nothing was found. So they cleared the area and gave us an all-clear fairly soon and we were able to hold classes in that building that evening.”

Then early Tuesday afternoon, Hulsey alerted the media that a second bomb threat had been made at the Blairsville campus but just after 3p, law enforcement gave the all-clear.

The entire building was evacuated and no one was injured.

Hulsey said Tuesday she had received word from authorities that there have been similar bomb threats at colleges across the state.

“North Georgia Tech was one of eight technical colleges that received a bomb threat that afternoon but they were in South Carolina. We understand there was one additional college outside of TSCG that received a threat,” she said.

Bomb threats were reported at several black colleges in addition to the technical colleges.

According to reports, Spelman, North Highland, Albany State, and Fort Valley State were some of the colleges also targeted with bomb threats Monday.

Hulsey says campus police and security are prepared for these types of emergencies.

The investigation into who is sending these bomb threats to schools is ongoing.
