Ninth District Opportunity Runs Out of Cooling Funds

Last week, we announced the federal program to help low-income households pay their cooling bills had opened to the general public.

However, Ninth District Opportunity, the funding agency for the cooling program in the 13-counties in Northeast Georgia they serve, has announced that they have run out of money for its cooling help program.

In April, the program initially provided funding for households where every member is age 65 and older or is medically homebound due to health reasons.

In May, the program was to have opened last week to other income-eligible households. However, because Ninth District Opportunity exhausted all of its funding during the first stage of the program in April, they will not schedule any more appointments for other income-eligible households.

Again, Ninth District Opportunity will not open its cooling help program to the general public due to all funds being exhausted.
