New Vendors Welcome to Lavonia Farmer’s Market Meeting Tonight

Farmer’s Markets have become popular venues in the warmer months for people looking for homegrown produce and other items.

They’ve also become a good source of side income for the producers.

Tonight, the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority will be holding an open meeting for anyone interested in selling their goods at this year’s Farmer’s Market.

DDA Executive Director Marie Morse says everyone is welcome to this evening’s meeting at the train depot.

This evening, we’re having our annual Farmer’s Market meeting which is open to anyone interested in learning more about becoming a vendor and it is also open to our existing vendors,” she said. “We’re looking for those who have homegrown produce or who have other items such as, plants, eggs or any homemade items, such as jams and jellies.”

At tonight’s meeting, Morse will go over with vendors the 2015 rules and regulations, how to price items for sale, applications and vendor fees.

Morse said you don’t have to have a green thumb to be a vendor at the Farmer’s Market.

“We have a variety of goods for sale,” she said. “As long as it’s homemade, handmade or home grown then we welcome them as a farmer’s market vendor. The cost to be a vendor is $10 a year.”

This year, the Lavonia Farmer’s Market will officially open on Saturday, April 4th and will continue through the spring, summer and fall months.

And as in past couple of years, Morse said there will also be a Christmas holiday market.

Tonight’s Farmer’s Market meeting takes place at 6:30p at the Lavonia Train Depot. If you can’t make tonight’s meeting, you can contact Morse at 706-356-1926.
