New Precinct Cards Go Out in Stephens County

Voters in Stephens County are receiving new precinct cards in the mail from the county’s Registrar’s Office.

Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley said she finished mailing out new precinct cards to all of the county’s registered voters earlier this week.

Kelley said the new cards are necessary after the county officially made the change to a single voting precinct earlier this year.

“The reason that everybody should be getting a precinct card is because of consolidating all of our precincts into one precinct back in February after we got clearance from the Justice Department,” said Kelley.  “On Election Day, everybody that votes (that day) will vote at the Senior Center.”

Kelley pointed out that people will vote at the Senior Center only on Election Day itself and only for county elections.

She said nothing will change in regards to the opportunity to vote early prior to Election Day.

“Early voting will still be at the Courthouse,” said Kelley, who also said mail-in absentee ballots will also still be available.

Also, people voting in the Toccoa municipal election, for example, on Election Day itself, will still vote at ToccoaCity Hall.

As for the new precinct cards themselves, Kelley said it is important that voters review them closely when they receive them.

“The only thing you have to worry about when you get that precinct card is to make sure the information is correct, like your address in all,” said Kelley.

Kelley said that if a registered voter in Stephens County has not received a new precinct card and does not get one in the mail in the next week or so, that person needs to contact her office.

“If you do not get one of these precinct cards, you need to be contacting me because we either have an issue with your address or you have moved and you have not updated your information with us,” said Kelley.  “If you have not received one, you need to let us know so we can make sure you are registered to vote in the upcoming election.”

The number for the Stephens County Registrar’s Office is 706-886-8954.

The change to a single voting precinct for county elections on Election Day takes effect with this November’s SPLOST VI election.
