New Hours, Gate Coming to Royston Wellness Park

The Royston Wellness and Community Park will be getting some new safety features.

At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, the Royston City Council approved a plan to set regular hours for the park to be open and also to install an automatic gate at the entrance.

Royston Police Chief Donnie Boleman said it’s time to establish regular hours at the park and have a the gate in order to eliminate after hours traffic.

Boleman said an automatic gate system would cost about $8,000, which he said would be paid for with Hart County SPLOST funds.

The request to install a gate was approved by the City Council unanimously.

After talking to people who use the park and monitoring the traffic, Boleman requested the hours for the park be from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The request to change hours was also approved unanimously by the City council.

Finally, Chief Boleman suggested instituting an application process for people or groups who want to hold special events at the park.

He said having an application on file would help in planning for traffic at the park, as well as clean up afterwards.

Boleman suggested he and City Manager Gregg Scott put together the application that would include basic information as well as eligibility of those holding events and the hours for the events.

That request was also approved unanimously by the city council.
