New Franklin County Web Site Up and Running

Franklin County government now has a new, more user-friendly Web site.

The new Web site is www.franklincountyga.gov.

The County’s Web site has been down for over a year and the County has been working to redesign the site to make it more user friendly and to provide citizens with more current information.

At the Board of Commission work session last month, Commissioner Jeff Jacques asked why the newly redesigned site was not up and running.

“I looked again earlier this week at our Web site and saw that it is still under construction,” he said. “Do we have an idea of when it will be up and running and fully functional?”

County Manager Beth Thomas said she had delayed launching the new Web site because until the Budget was passed.

Thomas noted she had not factored in any sort of computer maintenance contract into the FY16 budget.

“One of the biggest hold ups has been this budget process,” Thomas told the Board. “I have nothing in the budget for any type of computer or software maintenance. So, I cannot to somebody and say, ‘let’s flip the switch’ and begin maintaining all of this stuff until I know how the budget is going to turn out. So, we are ready to turn it on, but I am a little reluctant to turn anything on without some type of maintenance agreement.”

Thomas said the County has to shift from one domain name to another and she said she wanted a maintenance contract with a service provider in place before that happened.

Once in place, the Web site went live.

Per Commissioner Jacques request, the new Web site contains a page where citizens can find out about job openings and board openings.

It also has a page where all BOC meeting minutes are posted. The new County page also has links to all five municipality Web pages.
