NEGA Animal Shelter Raising Some Adoption Fees

Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter

With prices going up for everything from food to gas to the cost of living in general, it should be no surprise that the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter is raising its adoption fee for dogs.

It has been at least twenty years since the shelter board increased its adoption fees, but now Shelter Director Tammie Jourdenais says like everyone else, they are being forced to do so.

“It’s not what we wanted to do. Our prices have always been extremely low and they’ve been a lot lower than about half of the other shelters. But unfortunately, due to the price of everything rising, we’re going to have to raise our adoption fees. Adult dogs will be $75 and they were $55 and puppies under six months will be $100. Cat adoption fees will still be $45,” she said.

Jourdenaise said the adoption fee will continue to include their spay or neuter appointment, rabies vaccine at the approved vets listed on our forms, and their age-appropriate combo vaccines and dewormer they receive while they are at the shelter.

The typical adoption fee at other animal shelters and humane societies in our area runs between$100 – $125 for dogs and puppies.

At the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, adult dogs are $100 and puppies are $125, cats are $75.

Shelter hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 11a to 4p.
