NE GA Animal Shelter Raising Money for New Building at Yard Sale Saturday

If you like hunting for bargains and fabulous finds at garage sales and yard sales, then you will definitely want to hit the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter’s garage sale Saturday.

The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter garage sale takes place Saturday beginning at 8a ..until..at a storefront next to Lavonia Pet Salon on Highway 17 in Lavonia.

Located in a storefront next to Lavonia Pet Salon and a couple of doors down from the Franklin County Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store, the sale starts at 8a and will continue until people stop showing up, according to shelter director Tammie Jourdenais.

The store is literally jammed-packed with items that have been donated by members of the community – everything from kitchenware, to art, to clothes and children’s items.

Jourdenais says they are trying to raise money for an addition to the current shelter.

Jourdenais said the extra building is needed to make room for more incoming dogs and cats and because of a new regulation from the Georgia Department of Agriculture that requires animal shelters to separate incoming animals that have not been evaluated for shots and overall health from those that are ready for adoption.

But due to the rising cost of materials, more funds are needed to pay for the new building.

The Shelter on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia is currently at capacity with lots of beautiful kittens and wonderful dogs looking for new homes.

Adoptions are $40 for cats and kittens, $50 for puppies and adult dogs. The adoption fee includes their spay or neuter, the first set of shots and a rabies vaccine if old enough.
