NE GA Animal Shelter at Capacity With Dogs, Cats, Kittens, Puppies Up for Adoption

The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter on Bear Creek Road in Lavonia is currently at capacity with lots of beautiful kittens and wonderful dogs looking for new homes.

“The shelter has been overrun with kittens, cats, dogs, and puppies in recent weeks. Our shelter only has 12 kennel runs. I actually took several dogs home and boarded them at my house because we just didn’t have any more room. Thankfully we were able to transfer some dogs to a rescue group. We were at the shelter until midnight Wednesday working with a no-kill rescue who was able to take 25 dogs and puppies,” said Shelter Director Tammie Jourdenais.

Jourdenais said on Wednesday alone, they took in 37 animals not including those brought to them by animal control.

“We have some absolutely gorgeous kittens available for adoption right now and some beautiful dogs looking for new homes,” she said. “If you’ve been considering adding a dog or cat or both to your family, now is a great time to come to the shelter and adopt.”

Adoptions are $40 for cats and kittens, $50 for puppies and adult dogs. The adoption fee includes their spay or neuter, the first set of shots and a rabies vaccine if old enough.

The shelter is holding a massive garage sale Saturday in a storefront next to the Lavonia Pet Salon on highway 17 in Lavonia beginning at 8a.
