N. GA Tech Welcomes New English Teacher to Currahee Campus

Sylvia Bey Pic 4The North Georgia Technical College recently welcomed a new English Instructor, Sylvia Bey, to the Currahee Campus for the Fall Semester, 2013.

Bey comes to the Currahee Campus with a broad background that includes includes experience on a DSL helpdesk for BellSouth Business Systems as well as several years with the DeKalb County School System and the K12 Online Schools as the ESOL and Gifted Program Director.

“Teaching is my passion, and I love teaching English,” she said.  “People are intimidated with writing because they fail to realize that it takes practice.  Therefore, we spent the first class session looking at the process.  By the end of the semester, my students will be able to see how far they have come since writing their first class essay and they will be amazed at their progress!”

Bey attended the University of Alabama receiving a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in English. 

From there, she moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and received her M.A. in English and Writing from Northern Michigan University University. 

After moving backed to Alabama, Bey attended Jacksonville State University where she received an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership.

“I am delighted to welcome Sylvia to our English faculty,” said NGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Kathie Ivester. “Her energy is evident in the classroom and her credentials and qualifications add to our distinguished faculty at North Georgia Technical College.

Bey lives in Lawrenceville with her husband and two children.
