Municipalities and Counties to Hold Meetings This Evening

The Lavonia and Royston City Councils along with the Hart County and Franklin County Boards of Commission all have meetings scheduled for this evening.

The Lavonia City Council will hold a work session at City Hall this evening beginning at 6p.

Line items up for discussion include Flock Safety Review, Jerry Weitz Contract, Water/Wastewater Projects, and a Tap Fees and Surcharge Resolution.

The Council will also go into executive session to discuss real estate and personnel.

The Royston City Council will also meet at 5:30p this evening.

However, at 10a this morning they will meet for the first of two millage rate public hearings.

At 6p the Council will hold a second public hearing on their proposed millage rate before voting on the millage in a called meeting at 6:15p

Hart County Commissioners will discuss and possibly vote on whether to accept an annexation request from the City of Hartwell when they meet tonight for their second meeting of the month.

Hartwell wants to annex just over 274 acres for a major housing development between Fairview Avenue and Liberty Hill Road.

According to their request, 129 acres will be dedicated to single-family housing and 145 acres dedicated to multi-family housing.

Hart County Commissioner Joey Dorsey tells WLHR News Commissioners plan to object to the annexation.

One reason, he said, is because the property in question lacks the infrastructure needed to support what would amount to 1,000 to 1,200 homes.

Tonight’s Hart County Commission meeting takes place at 6p at the Board of Commissioners office on Reed Creek Highway in Hartwell.

And the Franklin County Board of Commission will hold their regular work session this evening at 6p at the Justice Center on the Royston Highway in Carnesville.
