Mississippi Man Killed in Stephens County Wreck

Charges are pending against the driver who caused a wreck in Stephens County Friday that resulted in the death of one person.

It happened Friday afternoon about 12:30p on SR17 and Memorial Drive.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Chrysler Pacifica was traveling westbound on Memorial Drive attempting to cross State Route 17 while a motorcycle was traveling southbound on State Route 17 in the right lane.

The GSP said the driver of the Pacifica, 44-year-old Ladonna Fowler of Eastanollee, failed to yield and struck the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, 64-year-old Kirby Grindstaff of Patton, Mississippi, and his passenger, 64-year-old Dolores Grindstaff, were both injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

According to troopers, Kirby Grindstaff died later Friday evening as a result of his injuries.  The condition of Dolores Grindstaff is not known.  Fowler was also injured, but the extent of her injuries is not known.

Charges against Fowler are still pending.
