Metro Atlanta Woman Killed in I-85 Wreck Near Fair Play

A metro Atlanta woman is dead after being involved in an early morning accident on I-85 just inside the South Carolina State line.

South Carolina authorities say it happened about 6:20a Monday morning near mile marker 3 in the northbound lane at Fair Play.

Oconee County State Trooper Lance Keller tells WLHR News a 2002 Toyota, driven by 46-year old Loi Nguyen of Chamblee, Georgia was traveling southbound on I-85 when it crossed the center median into northbound traffic and was struck by an oncoming northbound pick-up truck.

A passenger in Nguyen’s vehicle, identified only as a 48-year old Vietnamese woman from Chamblee Georgia, died at the scene from head trauma.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said her death is being ruled as accidental.

He said she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

Keller said Nguyen was injured and was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the northbound vehicle is identified as Gheorge Schipor, 43 of Marietta, GA.

Shipor also suffered injuries and was transported to AnMed Medical Center in Anderson.

Their conditions are unknown at this time.
