Memorial Day Services Planned in Franklin and Hart Counties

Both Franklin and Hart Counties will hold Memorial Day services Monday, reminding all of us that the day is not just about cookouts and fun on the lake – it’s about remembering those who gave their lives in the service of our country to preserve our freedoms so we could have cookouts and fun on the lake.

At the Board of Commissioners work session this week, County Manager Derrick Turner announced a community Memorial Service will take place Monday at 9a on the Franklin County Courthouse Square.

The service will include the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, a Prayer for our Nation, followed by a keynote speaker.

The service will conclude with the ringing of the remembrance bell for the Franklin County service members killed in action, the playing of Taps and recognition of each military branch by the raising of the flags.

Members of the Patriot Guard will place flags at Veterans Memorial Park in honor of those servicemen and women who died.

In Hart County, a Memorial Day service will take place at 11a on the grounds of the Hart County Courthouse square in downtown Hartwell.

The Hart County High School Band will play the national anthem as well as the anthems of the Nation’s five branches of the Military.

Alan Powell and Reed Creek Baptist Church pastor Eric Boyd will be the guest speakers.

The program will conclude with the playing of Taps.

On Saturday, members of the American Legion Hartwell Post will be placing flags on the graves of veterans buried in Hartwell.

Some 600 veterans are buried in Hart Memorial Park.
