McDonough Man Facing Multiple Charges in Last Week’s High-speed Chase

A McDonough man is facing charges in Franklin County after a high-speed chase that backed up traffic on I-85 last week.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas, it happened Tuesday, February 7 when one of his deputies observed a motorcyclist traveling south near mile marker 172 on the Interstate at a high rate of speed.

The deputy attempted to pull the motorcycle over but the driver sped off and a chase ensued for about two miles until the driver hit another patrol car and crashed.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Jerrell Charles of McDonough, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, treated, and released to the Franklin County Detention Center.

He was charged with felony fleeing, defective tires, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, following too closely, expired registration, and DUI.

Charles was released on Wednesday, Feb 8 on a $16,700 property bond. His name has not been released.
