Martin Man Killed in One-Car Crash in Anderson County

A Martin has died, killed in a crash in Anderson County, SC.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal David Jones, it happened Wednesday evening at about 6p on Highway 184, the Elberton Highway in Iva, SC.

“There’s one unit involved resulting in one fatality. The operator was driving a 2004 Chevrolet truck and was deceased on scene,” he said. “Unit one was driving west on 184 when he went off the road to the left side of the roadway struck a utility pole and overturned.”

Jones added that the investigation indicates the driver’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Medshore EMS, Anderson County EMS, Anderson County Fire Department, Iva Police Department, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and Investigators with the Office of the Coroner responded to the scene.

Don McCown, Anderson County’s Chief Deputy Coroner has identified the victim as 60-year-old Jeffrey Thomas Berryman of Martin.

Berryman was treated at the scene by EMS/Fire Personnel and transported to AnMed in Anderson where he died due to multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma.

The accident caused a power outage in the area and resulted in several grass fires that had to be extinguished by firefighters.

The investigation is ongoing by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
