Martin Man Dies After Chase with a Trooper

A Martin man was fatally injured after he was thrown from his vehicle while fleeing from the Georgia State Patrol in Stephens County on Wednesday.

The driver was identified as 35-year-old Christopher Scott Taylor.

According to GSP, Taylor died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.

The trooper checked the vehicle traveling south on GA 17 at a high rate of speed around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a report from the GSP, the trooper activated his emergency lights in an attempt to make a traffic stop; however, the driver refused to stop and continued fleeing south from the trooper.

The vehicle was identified as a silver 2003 Volvo S40.

The driver made a left turn onto South Yow Mill Road and traveled east at high speeds, running other motorists off the roadway.

The driver negotiated a curve, lost control and veered off the roadway’s north shoulder. The Volvo rolled over several times while ejecting the driver.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing by the Georgia State Patrol Post 7 and the Georgia State Specialized Reconstruction Team.
