Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health to be Presented Tonight

This year’s Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health will be presented tonight at the Lavonia Train Depot.

The Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health is in its 12th year and is named for Margaret Ayers, longtime civic activist, former first lady of Lavonia, and career banker.

The award is presented each year to the Lavonia resident who demonstrates outstanding civic leadership.

Last year’s recipient was Lavonia City Councilman David Howell.  Howell was lauded for his work with many civic organizations, such as the Boys Scouts, the Lions Club and the Masons.

Criteria to be considered for the award include being a resident of Lavonia, the nominee’s civic leadership, exceptional character, an appreciation of local history, as well as one who brings credit to the city.
