Madison Oglethorpe Shelter Looking for New Director

The Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter in Danielsville is searching for a new director.

According to a report in the Madison Journal Today, former Director Andrew Kitchens resigned at the end of July to attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.

Shelter board president Sherrie Hines said during his time as shelter Director Kitchens was instrumental in saving the lives over of 1,200 dogs and cats by arranging weekly transports to no-kill rescue groups up north where there is a shortage of adoptable dogs and cats.

She said Kitchens also oversaw a partnership with the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine for fourth-year veterinary students to assist with the MOAS spay/neuter clinic.

Hines said Carissa Abbs is the interim director.

She said they are looking for someone who can handle the demands of running an animal shelter.

She added it’s not just about having good people skills when dealing with the public but also having to handle the high volume of animals that are turned into the County shelter.

They are also looking for someone skilled in grant writing.

Hines said the shelter board is taking their time to make sure they find just the right candidate.

Interested applicants can learn more about the position and apply online at www.moaspets.com/shelter-director.

She said the shelter is also in need of volunteers, as well as citizens to adopt and foster pets.
