Lots To Do in Northeast Georgia This Weekend

As you might expect, there is a lot going on this Memorial Day weekend in Northeast Georgia.

Kicking off the weekend, is the Georgia On My Mind Day at the Georgia Visitor’s Center on I-85 in Lavonia.

Local and area businesses will be showcasing their products and services to travelers stopping at the Visitor’s Center today from 10a to 2p.  Today’s event is part of a statewide visitor center campaign.

Then tonight, the real fun kicks off in Lavonia with a concert and dance at the Lavonia Cultural Center.

The group, Butch and the Buckheads will be live with blast from the past rock n’ roll music beginning at 7p.  Admission is just $5 per person.

In Hartwell Saturday, it’s Cars and Guitars Under the Stars on the square.

This family-friendly event is a great way to kick-start the summer season! Come admire elegant classic cars and motorcycles this Memorial Day Saturday. There will also be music and children’s activities.

50’s, 60’s and 70’s DJ music will be provided by “Cruzin to the Oldies.”  

Then Saturday afternoon in Hartwell, the music and fun continues at Long Point Park with the second annual Lake Hartwell Music Festival.

Bands and musicians from across the South will performing.

Tickets are $10 before the day of the show and $15 the day of the show.

The excitement begins at 4 pm; bring the family, bring some chairs and bring a cooler, no glass, this is a party with a purpose, and all proceeds will benefit HYDRA.

If Southern Gospel music is more your thing, you will want to bring your lawn chairs and picnic basket to the 14th annual Indian Creek Memorial Day Gospel Weekend at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Carnesville.

The fest actually began Thursday and continues through Sunday. Admission is free.

And if you’re a veteran, you might want to travel to Ellijay to view the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall at the Ellijay fairgrounds.

The Wall is available for viewing every day through Monday from 10a to 6p free of charge.

And on Monday, Memorial Day, members of the Stephens County VFW and American Legion will hold a public ceremony to remember those who lost their lives defending our country.

 

The service will take place at 11a on the lawn of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.
