Local Shops Offering Great Deals for Shop Small Saturday

Just a reminder, local businesses in Lavonia and surrounding communities will have their doors open this weekend for Small Business Saturday.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is traditionally called Small Business Saturday or Shop Small Saturday, and is a time when people are encouraged to do at least part of the their holiday shopping by hitting the locally owned retailers in their communities.

Lavonia Downtown Development Authority Director Vivian Young says the main focus of Small Business Saturday is to show support for local retailers.

And she says shoppers will be able to find some great deals.

“We have always participated because our main focus is shop local,” Young said. “I’ve already talked to our business owners and all of them are participating and they tell me they will have some fabulous sales going on on Black Friday, and for Shop Small Saturday.”

Young said downtown shops plan to extend their hours throughout the holiday season.

Young noted many local shops will have items for sale not found in major retailers, which she says can make that gift all the more special.

“Before they take off to Wal-mart or the bigger towns, I wish they would take the time to come downtown and see what our shops have. We have a lot of things in our stores; a lot of craft and art items. A lot of one-of-a-kind items that are unique,” she said.

Royston will also be hosting its annual Holiday Christmas Market tomorrow from 10a to 3p at the Royston Historic Train Depot.

And downtown Toccoa will be filled with holiday cheer Saturday as downtown businesses receive guests shopping for the busy Christmas season.
