Local Non-Profits and Charities Offering Support During COVID-19 Emergency

Local non-profit groups and charities in Northeast Georgia are ramping up services or continuing their emergency services during the COVID-19 emergency.

Here are just a few that are there with help if you need it:

Food Bank of Northeast Georgia is ramping up their food distribution in coordination with their partners to meet demands, and are continuing their Food 2 Kids weekend feeding program.

At the moment, they need financial contributions and food donations.

Donations can be dropped off at 861 Newton Bridge Road, Athens, Ga. And at 46 Plaza Way in Clayton, Ga.

Additionally, they are looking for a temporary worker for the next few weeks in the Athens warehouse.

High school seniors, age 17 years and up or college students who can do physical labor in the warehouse are encouraged to email [email protected].

In Royston, Harmony House is continuing to provide all emergency Forensic Interviews and Sexual Assault Examinations.

Both offices will have limited staff on site during business hours for crisis calls and the 24-hour crisis line will be remotely staffed after normal hours.

Trauma Focused Therapy is being provided using a Telemental Health platform.

And the Salvation Army Northeast Georgia is working with local, state, and federal governments and health authorities, and are practicing further hygiene and cleaning protocols to help keep safe those who depend on The Salvation Army’s programs and services.

They are expecting to see a significant increase in emergency assistance needs for low-wage employees facing layoffs, limited hours, childcare challenges and more due to COVID-19.

The support they provide – rent/mortgage, utility, and food assistance, among others – will become more vital as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

That’s why they’re asking for increased support from donors in order to respond with help for those who are in immediate critical need.
