Local City Councils, Commissions, Kick Off 2015 With Meetings Tonight

The Lavonia City Council will spend its first session of the new year doing some basic housekeeping.

On the agenda this evening, one of the first orders of business will be to swear in councilman Harold Harbin as mayor pro-tem for 2015.

The council will then hear and approve the list of department heads and staff for 2015 as well as hear and approve the list of authorities, commissions, and boards and their respective members.

Also on the list of things to do this evening, the council is expected to approve the audit firm and city attorney for 2015.   And they are also expected to appoint the Lavonia Housing Authority commissioner and appoint a housing authority board member.

Finally, the council will hear from one local resident about a plan to apply for historical status for a property in the Springview area.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30p at Lavonia City Hall.

Franklin County’s Board of Commissioners begin the new year with some new members on the board and on staff.

New County Commissioner for District 4 Eddie Wester was sworn in last month and will be sitting on his first meeting of his term tonight.

And at their first meeting of 2015 this evening, the board is expected to officially appoint new county  manager Elizabeth Thomas and re-appoint County Clerk Elaine Evans.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6p at the Franklin County Justice Center in Carnesville.

In Hartwell, City Council members have a lot on their plate when they meet this evening.

Council members are expected to consider candidates to appoint to the Downtown Development Authority Board.   They are also expected to set the qualifying fee for potential candidates for the 2015 municipal elections, and consider closing the building fund account originally opened prior to building the new city hall and police department.

Tonight’s Hartwell City Council meeting takes place at City Hall at 7p.
