Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive Saturday

Residents of Franklin and Hart Counties are being asked to take part in the National Letter Carriers Food Drive this Saturday.

Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the annual event collects non-perishable food for local food banks.

Suzy Roling is the Sales Service Associate Clerk at the Lavonia Post Office. Roling said anyone who receives mail at their home is invited to leave food at their mailbox this Saturday.

“The food drive is a way for our customers to help people in our own community,” Roling said. “They can donate non-perishable food items in a bag by their mailbox Saturday, we will pick it up and make sure the food gets to a local food bank or charity in our community.”

According tot he National Association of Letter Carriers, one in six Americans are either living at risk of hunger or not knowing where their next meal will come from.

That’s why the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive has continued every year since 1992. Roling said last year’s food drive was a big success and they expect a good response again this year.

Letter carriers from post offices around Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties will be asking for your donations this Saturday.

All you have to do is fill a bag with non-perishable items, such as canned or boxed goods and leave it by your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up.

If you aren’t sure if your local post office is participating, you can give them a call to find out.
