Lawn Mower Pull Planned to Raise Money for Shop With a Cop

You’ve heard of tractor pulls, but have you ever heard of a lawn mower pull?

If you have and even if you haven’t, you might want to check out an upcoming lawnmower pull being put on to raise money for the Fraternal Order of Police annual Shop With a Cop event.

FOP Chapter 105 is putting on the event on October 25 in Dewy Rose.

“The Lawnmower Pull is put on by the Countyline Pullers, headed by Phil Berryman with the Hart County Sheriff’s office,” said FOP Chapter 105 Secretary and Treasurer, Jeff Love with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office.  “It’s like a tractor pull or truck pull. They hook up to a sled and pull it as far as they can and then the distance is measured. It’s a fun event to see who has the best lawnmower in their particular classification of pull.”

Love said these riding lawnmowers come in all sizes and some have been modified to make them even stronger.

“They’re going to have everything from a standard stock lawn mower to one that will have a standard  V-8 small block engine in it,” Love said. “I understand there are some people coming in from Tennessee who also have some there that are alcohol-burning engines, similar to a top fuel dragster. So, it should be quite interesting.”

In addition to the actual lawnmower pull, there will be food and refreshments available BBQ and Stew Plates available.   The pull begins at 3p Saturday, October 25th.

Love said they are hoping to raise some $1,500 from the event. Admission is $5,  hook fee is $10.

Meantime, Love said applications for families who would like to have their child shop with a cop are now available at the Franklin and Hart County Sheriff’s office and here at the 92.1 WLHR studios in Lavonia.
