Lavonia Woman Indicted on Vehicular Homicide Charges

A Lavonia woman has been indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury on Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree.

It happened June 6, 2017, when according to the Indictment then 25-year old Kayla Leann Cobb was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pick up on New Bethel Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post, Cobb was driving under the influence of alprazolam and marijuana

The indictment states Cobb was allegedly speeding, weaving all over the road, at one point driving in the opposite lane of travel, driving on both shoulders of the road and eventually left the road.

Troopers said her pick up struck a phone box, then crossed the road again striking a fence and a tree.

Cobb’s passenger, 23-year-old Curtis Roy Hall of Eastanollee, was critically injured and died of his later at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Cobb was charged by GSP with first-degree vehicular homicide (felony), driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and failing to maintain proper tire requirements.

She was arrested and held without bond in the Franklin County Detention Center.
Cobb pleaded not guilty to the charges.
