Lavonia to Light Christmas Tree Tonight

Lavonia will be lighting their Christmas tree tonight at the Gazebo downtown on Main Street.

In addition to the tree lighting, Young says they will be showing a traditional Christmas animated feature.

“We will be showing the film, Rudolph, after the tree lighting,” she said. “The film will be shown in the Gazebo. We encourage families to bring chairs and blankets to stay and watch this classic animated film with Burl Ives narrating. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.”

Also, tonight, Young will announce the winner of the Lavonia Logo contest.

A contest for artists to submit their ideas has been going on since last January, and Young said instead of paying an outside design firm to come up with a logo, the DDA decided to solicit ideas from local talent.
The deadline for entries was November 22.

The winner will receive $500 for their work and their design will be used on all future promotional materials.

Second place will receive $200 and third place $100.

Again tonight’s tree lighting takes place at 6p followed by the animated feature Rudolph with Burl Ives.
