Lavonia Scout Troop 51 to Dedicate Fire Pit/Seating Area Tonight

The public is invited to the Scout Hut at Lavonia Memorial Park this evening to dedicate the new fire pit and seating area.

Last spring, Eagle Scout J. T. Strickland with Troop 51 came before the Lavonia City Council and Mayor to outline the troop’s plan for a new seating area and fire pit.

Strickland said his Scout Master and Mayor Courtney Umbehant looked at three possible sites for the seating area and fire pit and ultimately decided on an area behind and near the scout hut.

Mayor Umbehant noted the current deck behind the scout hut will be torn down and replaced with a patio that will transition to the seating area and fire pit.

After hearing from Strickland the Council voted unanimously to approve the new seating area and fire pit at the park.

Tonight’s fire pit and seating area dedication takes place at 6:30p and there will also be a flag retirement ceremony.

Citizens are invited to bring their old tattered American flag to be respectfully retired by the Lavonia Scout Troup 51.
