Lavonia Police Team Up for Bowl-a-Thon to Combat Alzheimer’s

Lavonia Police will be lending their bowling expertise Saturday in an effort help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

This is the first time the Lavonia Police has participated in the event and Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said it promises to be a lot of fun for a good cause.

 “We’re excited about the event,” Carlisle said. “We’re just glad that we’re able to be involved. Those who have loved ones suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s know what a devastating disease this is. So we’re just glad we can be involved in this fundraising effort.”

The Lavonia Police team will one of 38 teams bowling on Saturday.

The Anderson Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association has been putting on the Bowl-a-thon for the past 24 years according to Velma  Haggan, Vice president of Finance & Operations.

Haggan said teams come from all over the Upstate and Georgia to participate.

 “We’ve had teams from Georgia in the past,” Haggan said. “One of the companies who participates each year moved their offices to Georgia and they continue to participate. So, anyone who wants to get a team together from Georgia is more than welcome.”

Haggan said this year’s Bowl-a-thon is full but she said you can always donate or go by Boulevard Lanes on Clemson Blvd Saturday cheer on your team.
