Lavonia Police Looking to Hire New Officer

The Lavonia Police Department has a job opening for a new police officer.

“We had a police officer take a position in metro Atlanta and it’s a great opportunity for him,” Chief Shane Edmiston said. “We have one opening and we are taking applications. We do have certified and qualified people calling in wanting to get an interview. So, we will be conducting interviews in the near future.”

Chief Edmiston said since posting the opening they’ve already had candidates contacting his office.

The Chief said they are hoping to hire someone with experience but said they will also consider entry-level candidates.

“We would like to have somebody who is POST-certified and has experience, but if we can’t find anybody who is qualified or meets our minimum standards then we would consider hiring somebody that has not been to the Academy. We would then send them to the Academy for training,” he explained.

To enter the Police Academy an entry-level candidate must meet certain criteria, according to Edmiston.

They must have a high school diploma, a clean background, and be able to pass the Academy’s physical agility test.

Anyone interested in the position can contact the Lavonia Police Department at 706-356-4848.
