Lavonia Police Department’s Faith & Blue Event This Weekend

The Lavonia Police Department will hold their third annual Faith and Blue Weekend
this Saturday and Sunday.

National Faith & Blue Weekend was launched to facilitate safer, stronger, more just,
and unified communities nationwide.  According to Lavonia Assistant Police Chief
Daniel Carson, Faith & Blue Weekend builds partnerships among law enforcement,
local faith-based organizations, and the community.

“Faith and Blue Weekend is just a partnership between law enforcement agencies and the local churches and faith leaders where we can come together for a time of fellowship and just communication.”

Carson says this year’s Faith and Blue weekend kicks off Saturday morning with a
Party in the Park behind Lavonia City Hall. There will be inflatables for the kids, free
food, and the GSP helicopter will make a special appearance.
Plus the community will have a chance to meet officers from the Lavonia PD, Georgia
State Patrol, the Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division, and local pastors.
Then on Sunday, officers will be visiting local churches.

While in some parts of the country, law enforcement and the community have
endured strained relationships creating a need for events like this to mend fences,
Carson says Lavonia Police and local citizens have an excellent relationship.  So events
like Faith & Blue Weekend only help to build on a that solid foundation.

“People in the community, they know us on a first-name basis.  And that’s the way we always want to continue here.  You know that way, when somebody has a need for law enforcement, they can call us.  And they know who that person is coming into help them.  It’s just not a uniform.  It’s a person, and they know us personally.”

Again, Faith and Blue weekend begins Saturday with a Party in the Park from 10:00
a.m to 1:00 p.m. behind Lavonia City Hall.
