Lavonia Plans Town Hall Meeting to Address Citizen Concerns

The City of Lavonia is planning to hold a town hall meeting next week at the Spring Street Gym.

At the City Council meeting this week, Mayor Courtney Umbehant said the town hall is for everyone who lives inside the city limits.

“The purpose of the town hall is to talk with the community about increased code enforcement to help deal with blighted properties and other things all over the city,” he said. “We also want to talk about the future of Spring St. Park and get ideas for how to make the park better and more useable for all of our citizens. And we want to gain input of ideas from the entire community of things that you would like to see done in the park. We’re really excited about what we’ve been able to do in the park behind city hall and we’re excited to make changes to Spring St. Park as well.”

The issue of blighted properties in the Springview Heights Community came up during last month’s public comment period on the proposed development on Vickery St.

One resident said at the time he has asked the City for help a number of times to get the blighted and abandoned houses on his street cleaned up.

Again, the Town Hall meeting for Lavonia citizens takes place next Thursday at 6p at the Spring St. Gym.
