Lavonia PD to Hold Second Scam Seminar Today at Train Depot

Lavonia Police and Chief Bruce Carlisle will be holding a second seminar this afternoon on some of the many scams out there and how to avoid them at the Lavonia Train Depot beginning at noon.

Chief Carlisle held the first seminar on scams in February at the Lavonia Train Depot went very well.

“We had good attendance and the participants that were there were interactive. They were able to share their experiences with the audience, the things that they had encountered in the past, which made it more interesting. We were able to share some real-life situations that had happened here in Lavonia and everyone that was in attendance afterward thanked me for presenting the class and felt like they had learned something from what we had done.”

At the first scam seminar, Chief Carlisle gave an overview of 17 of the most common scams people fall victim to and gave examples of people in Lavonia who had found themselves a victim of a scam.

The first seminar was held in the evening but in an effort to get more people to take advantage of the scam seminar, this second one will be held at noon at the train depot.

Carlisle says it’s important for people to be aware of some of the more common scams now circulating.

“We believe that this is such an important thing for people to know that we’re offering it again but this time during the lunchtime hour,” he explained. “Maybe somebody will take something away so they don’t become victims of any scams that are out there. We enjoy doing these presentations and look forward to doing more of them in the future.”

Again, the next seminar on scams will take place at noon this afternoon at the Lavonia Train Depot.
