Lavonia PD Schedule Next Two Community Outreach Programs

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle has nailed down the first six monthly community outreach programs.

In addition to tomorrow night’s Remembrance program, the Chief said next month’s program will address scams.

“Our February community meeting will be focusing on scams. Even after we’ve put out so much information on scams people are still falling victim,” he said. “So we felt like this was a good opportunity to go over those. We’ve identified at least 17 scams we will discuss.”

The program on Scams will be held Tuesday, February 22 at 6p at the Lavonia train depot.  Meantime, Carlisle said the March program has been confirmed.

That will be the second annual Cookie with a Cop at the Lavonia Chick-fil-A and will be on March 21 from 5:30p to 7:30p.

“Then in April, we will be doing the first citizens firearms course and I will be announcing those as soon as we have the dates nailed down,” he said. “All of the meetings are free but the participants must bring their own ammunition. That’s the first part of the year that we’ve got planned and we are really looking forward for the community to come and join us.”

Again, tomorrow evening’s program will look back at the shooting of two Lavonia Police officers in 2016.

It will be a time to remember and review the incident five years ago when then-Police Captain Michael Schulman and former officer Jeffrey Martin were shot after pulling over a South Carolina man for a routine traffic stop.

Tomorrow night’s program and all of the monthly programs are free and open to the public.
