Lavonia Gearing Up for Third Annual Renaissance Festival

Lavonia’s third annual Renaissance Festival is now in the planning stages and last week, the first volunteer planning meeting was held.

This year’s Ren Fest theme is the Vikings and takes place May 7th at Lavonia City Park behind City Hall.

Sponsored by the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority, DDA Executive Director Barbara Busby says they are still looking for vendors and volunteers.

And with more people than ever expected to attend this year, she says they need more of both.

Another volunteer meeting is coming on March 8th at 6p at the Lavonia Train Depot for anyone interested in getting involved.

Last year, about 4,000 people attended Ren Fest and Busby believes there will be even more this year, which is why they are needing even more vendors.

However, she emphasized the vendors need to have authentic goods to sell.

“We are very specific with our Ren Fest vendors,” she said. “They need to be handmade items, handcrafted items or very very specific to the Renaissance era. We are also looking for more food vendors. Last year we had about 4,000 visitors. We expect to attract 5,000 this year. So, you can apply by going to Lavoniadowntown.com and download an application. Or you can stop by the train depot or give us a call and we can get you a vendor application.”

And if you need more information you can stop by the DDA office at the Lavonia Train Depot and speak with Busby or call her at 706-356-5725.
