Lavonia Doctor Opens Practice on Emmanuel Campus

A Lavonia physician is taking his medical practice to the students of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs.

Dr. Paul Raber has opened a small clinic on campus and sees students every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:30p to 7:30p.

“Many of them are from out of town and many don’t have transportation to get to and from a medical facility,” Raber said. “So we wanted to be able to provide medical care for them on campus without them having to take time out of their classes to do so.”

The clinic is set up in the  lower level of Dunn Hall on the Emmanuel College campus.

A graduate of a small Christian college himself, Raber said he felt led of God to get involved in some way with college students and after praying about it, he said God confirmed what he had been praying about in a surprising way.

“It was a wonderful thing the way the Lord worked through this,” he said. “At the same time the Lord was working in my heart to do this, the Lord led one of the to  me from the Emmanuel office. When I found out she was an employee at Emmanuel, I started to share with her what was on my heart.”

Raber said the woman told him the College had been looking for an on campus doctor in order to help fulfill the schools requirements for becoming a Division 2 NCAA school.

“She was just beside herself when I told what the Lord was working with me about and she shared it with the appropriate people higher up the chain of command at the school and that got me in touch with the appropriate people and the Lord has miraculously worked out the details since,” Raber said.

Sandy Campbell is the Head Athletic Trainer at Emmanuel College.

“The Lord led him to me in June 2013 as I was seeking the services of a medical physician for the athletic program. From that meeting, the Lord began to open the door about the need of this service for our student body,” Campbell said. “We are extremely grateful to Dr. Raber!”

Raber’s on campus clinic has been open for about two weeks now and he said the number of students he sees each week continues to grow.

“Dr. Raber is mission minded and has an extraordinary servant heart,” said Campbell. “He has been a blessing, and this truly is a God thing as he has spent years praying to be able to offer a medical ministry to Emmanuel College.
