Lavonia DDA Adds Virtual Costume Contest to Halloween Event

The Lavonia DDA has added an additional event to this year’s Halloween event.

In addition to the previously announced Drive Through Halloween and Car Decorating Contest, a virtual costume contest is going on now.

According to DDA Executive Director Vivian Young, parents are invited to take a picture of their child in their costume at the photo booth located at the Lavonia Gazebo and Email the photo to: [email protected].

In the email include your name and phone number and the child’s name and age.

For more than one child, please submit separate photos.

The photos will then be uploaded to the Lavonia DDA and Welcome Center Facebook Page.

Lavonia DDA Board Members will choose the winners and they will be announced on October 30th.

Also on Friday, the 30th, instead of little goblins, ghosts, superheros and princesses gathering at the Gazebo on Halloween for the annual Halloween Carnival, the Downtown Development Authority and Lavonia Main Street have come up with something everyone can take part in this year and still stay safe.

On Friday, October 30th there will be a Drive-thru Halloween and Car Decorating Contest, according to DDA Executive Director Vivian Young from 3p to 6p.

“We want parents to load up their little trick or treaters, decorate your car, and line up in front of the old roller mill at the corner of Burton St and E. Main St. for a Halloween parade,” she said. “You will then drive down to the Gazebo where volunteers will be on hand to give each vehicle a big bag of candy.”

And as you drive through make sure your car radio is tuned to 97.5 for some spooky Halloween music as your kids pick up their treats.

Young is also asking parents to decorate their vehicles because judges will be on hand to select the most creatively decorated vehicles.

“Judges will also be on hand at the Gazebo that day to pick the three top winners for the most creatively decorated vehicle. The winners will receive a gift certificate to one of our downtown businesses,” she explained.

Then once it gets dark, at 8p the Lavonia DDA will present the movie, “Hocus Pocus” at the Gazebo.

Young said this will be shown as if you were at a drive-in movie and you will be able to hear it by turning on your car radio and again tuning to 95.7 FM.
