Lavonia City Officials Review Ideas for Springview Park

Lavonia City Council and Mayor are looking over several lists of ideas regarding making improvements at Springview Heights Park.

Last month, Council and Mayor Courtney Umbehant met with Springview Heights citizens to outline how the City plans to help residents revitalize the park and the community as a whole.

Umbehant said now that upgrades to Lavonia City Park are largely complete, the City is turning its attention to upgrading Springview Heights Park.

Umbehant then listed some of the short-term plans for the park until funds can be garnered to do more upgrades.

“So what we’re going to do is we’re going to clean up the playground. We’re going to paint, we’re going to change the swings out and we want to change out the metal slides. So we’re going to do some beautification to that. We’re going to fix the grills in the park and try to fix up what’s here so it’s at least useable,” he said.

The Mayor also asked citizens to write down their ideas for the park and what they would like to see.

Some of those ideas include fitness trails, a new basketball court, a water park, security cameras, and new a/c and lighting inside the gym.

Other ideas include a splash pad or pool, an outdoor venue for concerts, and more parking. The park consists of eight acres but only a fraction is currently being used.

The Mayor said he and the staff are going over the ideas that were submitted.
