Lavonia City Councilman Michael Schulman has announced his intention to run for re-election for the Post 1 seat.

Schulman made the announcement in a press release over the weekend.

“I believe in the work that we are doing and want to continue my service as your Councilman. I am officially announcing my intention to run for re-election and continue this good work,” he said.

Before winning the Lavonia City Council seat two years ago, Schulman served as a Lavonia Police officer and police captain for 18 years.

In his announcement, Schulman pointed to his efforts as a city councilman to equip the police department with new, dependable vehicles, install a camera system around the city to keep Lavonia citizens safe.

He also pointed to the City Council’s efforts in creating a new playground at the city park, freshening up downtown Lavonia, the installation of the eagle sculpture, and helping the city navigate through the pandemic.

Schulman said the Council is continuing its work with developers to create more housing, which he believes will help bring in more economic growth opportunities.

Schulman was first elected to the City Council in 2019.
