Lavonia City Councilman Harbin Elected 2nd VP to GMA Board

Lavonia City Councilman Harold Harbin has been elected as the 2nd Vice President for District Two of the Georgia Municipal Association.

The election came at GMA’s statewide convention in last month.

Harbin will be on the board of District #2 which is comprised of 13 Counties; Rabun, Towns, Union, Habersham, White, Lumpkin, Stephens, Banks, Hall, Franklin, Hart, Dawson, Forsyth.

“This is an extreme honor for the City to have one of our own represented on the board,” noted City manager Gary Fesperman. “The last time this took place was back in the early 2000’s when mayor Ralph Owens served in that capacity on the board and eventually became president of District 2.”

Fesperman said the city looks forward to Harbin serving the district well over the next two years.

Harbin is one of two city councilmen from Franklin County that was elected to the District 2 board.  Royston City councilman Keith Turman was elected 3rd Vice President at the convention in June as well.

As a voluntary, non-profit organization, the GMA is the only state organization that represents municipal governments in Georgia.

It provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its members.  Current membership currently totals 512 municipal governments.
