Lavonia City Council Votes to Adopt Ross Place

The Lavonia City Council has voted to adopt Ross Place into the city limits.

At their meeting Monday evening, the Council voted unanimously for the adoption after hearing from City Manager Charles Cawthon.

Cawthon told the Council and Lavonia Mayor Courtney Umbehant development along the road that connects Highway 17/Jones St. in the city to Highway 59 in the County has made it more of a city street than a county road.

Among the businesses located on Ross Place include Ross Controls, the Cracker Barrel restaurant, the Red Roof Inn motel, and La Cabana Mexican Restaurant.

Additionally, Homestead Construction of North Georgia in conjunction with New Vision Developers have begun clearing 20 acres they purchased between Clear Creek Parkway and Ross Place for a new townhome complex.

Called the Reserve at Clear Creek, plans call for 59 3-bedroom, 2-bath upscale townhomes with a 2-car attached garage and a master bedroom on the main floor.

Prices will be in the $300,000 range with a target market of professionals and retirees.

Other acreage for sale along Ross Place is zoned for medical offices and other medical-related businesses as an adjunct to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners must now formally vote to turn Ross Place over to the City of Lavonia.
