Some local businesses in Lavonia have been recognized for their outstanding service to the community.

The Lavonia Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet last week for chamber members and with the banquet came the handing out of awards.

Chamber President Matt Fowler said the Business of the Year award went to Sweet Combs of Honey.

“LaDonna was a previous Chamber President prior to me and she continues to go above and beyond with services to the community,” he said. “We really wanted to recognize her and her business because she does such an exceptional job.”

A new award this year was for Citizen of the Year and Fowler said that went to Vivian Young.

“I don’t think she needs any introduction, her family has been here a long time. And we wanted to recognize all of the hard work she’s done, not only for the Chamber but also the DDA and other businesses in the City,” he said.

Another new award this year, according to Fowler was the Community Investment of the Year Award which went to Clear Creek Apartments.

“This is one we hadn’t done before,” Fowler explained. “We’re really excited to have them as a part of the community and they’re doing a great job out there.”

The Customer Service Award went to the owners of Chick-Fil-A in Lavonia Ashley and Will Lowe.

“I think that was pretty obvious who should win that one. We wanted ot recognize Ashley and Will and the whole staff at Chick-Fil-A and the contribution they’ve made to the community,” Fowler explained.

And the last award handed out was Networking Award which is also a new award and it went to EXP Realty.

Additionally, Fowler introduced the Chamber’s new Director, Jeanie Moore who starts work next week.
