Lake Hartwell Project Receives $1.5M for Campsite Repairs

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hartwell Lake Project will receive $1.4 million in federal funding for several projects on the South Carolina side.

The monies are coming from two recently enacted federal laws totally $22.8-billion dollars, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA); and the 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (DRSAA).

Aaron Wahus is the Hartwell Project Manager.

He said the Lake Hartwell share of the funding will go towards repairs at several South Carolina campsites.

“We will be doing restroom repair at Singing Pines and Broyles Recreation Areas, and campsite repair at Springfield Campground,” he said. “We will also procure and install new catenary and bar screen trash racks with automatic mechanical trash rake system, and replace failed Clemson Pump Station diesel pumps and right-angle drives.”

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act announced in January, provides a large boost to the normal appropriations process for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects, Savannah District, and is the largest single investment ever to restore and revitalize the infrastructures associated with the rivers and lakes in Georgia and South Carolina.

The 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act includes funding for qualifying natural disasters where losses were suffered due to droughts, hurricanes, wildfires, floods, etc.

However, the Savannah District did not receive funding from that Act.
